Death penaltys

Here are some other offenses other then murder that have had a sentence to execution

In the 2007, Texas passed a law that stated a second conviction of rape to a child under the age of 14 is punishable by the death penalty.

In 2006, Oklahoma, if you are charged with rape or Sodomy of a victim under the age of 14 years old and you have had a prior conviction of the same offense then you will be punish with the death penalty.

In 2006, South Carolina, a law was passed that if you sexually abuse a minor under the age of 11 years old then your conviction is execution by means of the state.

In 1995, In Louisiana, if you are convicted with aggravated rape of child under the age 13 years old then you will receive the death penalty.

MY OPINION ON DECISIONS OF EXECUTION

Should the inmate or prisoner be allowed to choose his or her method of death?

I feel that the prisoner should be allowed to choose his method of death sentence. I feel that the law should be that if an inmate/prisoner was found guilty of committing a murder then they should not be allowed to choose there own death method, it should be up to the family of the victim that was murdered in which they would vote on the best method for the case. The reason I said that is because if they took someone’s life away even if it was an accident, they should not be allowed to choose their method because they took someone’s life and that person could not decide what their method of death would be. It’s unfair to the person who was killed. I feel that this method makes the case much more even.

If the inmate/ prisoner did not commit a murder but his/her crime was a major felony, or the criminal was apart of a murder case and was found guilty then he/she should be able to choose the way they are executed. I honestly feel that not even the government should be allowed to kill someone. No one has the right to take another life, but sadly it happens everyday in America.

FIRING SQUAD: THE OPINION

The probable and most occurring outcome in this method of execution is that the inmate dies as a result of blood loss caused by the rupture of the heart, a major blood vessel, or the tearing of a lung. It is also said that the prisoner dies because of losing consciousness when shock from the fall of blood supply in their brain sets in. If the shooters miss the heart by an accident or intention, the prisoner will suffer a horrible death by bleeding out slowly. Another opinion of mines is that the bullet may hurt you upon entry. There is no evidence that it will not hurt before you die. People that survive being shot often say the pain is unbearable and there is a certain burning sensation, now you can imagine being shot in the chest by a rifle and you survive the shooting, that pain might put you in a state of shock and kill you.

FIRING SQUAD: THE RARE METHOD

Another rare form of Capital punishment is the method of firing squad. It is considered rare because of its outcome is not always death; there have been rare cases in which the prisoners actually lived through the execution. This method still remains the main method of execution in Idaho. The most recent use of this method was in Utah, 1996. A prisoner by the name of John Albert Taylor was executed by his own choosing.

In the method the prisoner is bound to a chair with leather straps across the prisoner’s body, legs, and arms. The chair is surrounded by sand-bags to absorb the inmate’s blood. The inmates face is covered with a dark or black hood completely. Then a doctor is ask to locate the heart of the prisoner heart and covers it with a white cloth, or a red target sign. From about 20 feet away, 5 shooters are given 30. Caliber rifles with single fire. One of the five shooter’s gun is loaded with blank rounds. Each shooter aims through a slot in a canvas at the inmate, and fires until inmate is pronounced dead.

MY VIEWS ON HANGING

I have always had a strong dislike for this method of execution. I first heard about this method through the horrible stories from my grandfather and how he grew up in South Carolina. The reason I dislike this method of execution the most is because I am of African American descent, and during the slave era most of the African American people that were executed were hung by white slave owners or members of the infamous KKK. I also feel that strangulation is a horrible way to die. Most theories of hanging prove this wrong, it is said that the rope is measured for the victim’s height and weight so that he or she does not choke rather the rope break their necks. I feel that this method of execution affected many of my ancestor’s lives as well as the lives of others who followed.

My opinion on Lethal injection

Lethal injection is said to be the most humane method of execution in modern day punishment. I also agree with this opinion. Although I strongly feel that execution should not be an option of punishment. It seems that the process is much more humane and easier to carry out then other methods of execution. It also seems to be less pain for the inmate or prisoner that receives it. I’m not saying that it is the best but, if were to be executed I would want to be lethally injected, rather than be electrocuted. Although , I sometimes wonder if the chemical compounds that are being injected will actually hurt while they are being injected or can I feel the chemicals running through my veins before my death. No one really knows except those inmates and prisoners who suffered death from lethal injection.

My View On The Concept Of Execution.

My view on execution is that it is wrong, how can people of power punish other people who commit crimes such as murders and massacres, and then commit a murder on the criminal by killing him. The saying goes that, “two wrongs don’t make it right”. How can humans say it is a wrongful sin to kill someone and to punish the murderer they decide to kill the person to prove a point? I feel that the ultimate punishment for killing someone should be life imprisonment, and over the years of imprisonment if he or she should learn that what they did was wrong they should be allowed to have freedom. If the prisoner shows no remorse then they should be imprisoned until death. Although people may have power in our world, they are still human and no human should have the right to take another life even though it is through justice.

LETHAL DOSES GIVEN IN LETHAL INJECTION

1. SODIUM THIOPENTAL: This compound is used in surgery as an anesthetic, usually the dose is used up to 150 mg, in lethal injection it is given 5,000mg, that amount is lethal which means the prisoner should not feel nothing at this point.

2. PANCURONIUM BROMIDE: This compound is a muscle relaxant that is given in a strong dose to paralyse the diaphragm and lungs. This drug takes 1-3 minutes to work.

3. POTASSIUM CHLORIDE: This is a toxic agent which induces cardiac arrest. Not all the states in the United States use this compound in their execution because they feel the first two compounds are sufficient enough to cause death.

PROCESS BEFORE LETHAL INJECTION

Like every legal execution in the United States, the inmate is prepared for death before his/her actual execution. This process includes a change of clothing, a last meal of his/her choice, and a shower. The prisoner is taken to a chamber of execution and two IV tubes are inserted into his/her arm, then a saline solution is fed into the prisoner's arm. The tubes are expanded from another room where the execution will be carried out. This seperate room contains direct telephone connection to officials who are advising the execution. Once the tubes are connected, there is a curtain that is pulled back reveiling the whole room so that witnesses may watch the execution. Then finally the prisoner is allowed to make his/her last statement. The executioners are blocked view of the prisoner and the witnesses, and the lethal dose is given manually so that there is no mechanical failure.

METHOD OF HANGING

The day before the criminal/inmate is to be hung he/she must be weighed. Rehearsal is done usually be using a sandbag of the same weight as the prisoner. This practice is to determine the length of the "drop" that is necessary to ensure a quick death for the criminal/inmate. If the length of the rope is too short for the criminals/inmates weight then the strangulation can take as long as 45 minutes to complete. If the rope is too long then the inmate can be decapitated. The rope that is used for the execution must be boiled and stretched to eliminate spring or coiling. The knot that creates the noose must be lubricated with wax or oil to ensure a smooth sliding action.

METHOD OF EXECUTION: HANGING

Hanging was one of the earliest method of execution in the United States. Until the late 1800's it was the primary method of execution. In present time hanging is only used in two states in the United States, Delware and Washington. These two states also offer alternative methods to execute but they still rely on this very old method. The last known legal hanging to take place was January 25, 1996 in Delaware.

Gas chemicals

Zyklon B was one of the first biological execution methods and one of the most famous chemicals used for killing mass amounts of people. This named was created for a cyanide-based pesticide which became popular and brought to attention during the nazi-germany rain in Germany. Zyklon B was used during the holocaust in Hitlers concentration camps for gas chambers. These chambers were often massive and could hold hundreds of people at a time. Zyklon B consists of Hydrogen Cyanide and also has a warning odor.

THE HISTORY ON THE GAS CHAMBER

The gas chamber was introduced into the United States in the 1920's for the execution of condemned prisoners. The gas chamber consists of a sealed chamber in which a posion gas is injected into the sealed room by a filtered drain system. This method became famous when it was largely used in the Holocaust, when Nazi-Germany built large-scale gas chambers to commit mass execution of jews.

Method of Lethal injection

This method of execution is done by putting a criminal to sleep with a fatal dose of drugs, this drug is usually causes immediate death. The main purpose of this method is for Capital Punishment but in a more humane sense it would be considered as euthanasia or suicide. This method kills the prisoner by first putting him/her to sleep, then stop the persons breathing, then stopping the heart of the persons causing instant death. Lethal injection, which is considered more humane than hanging, electrocution, firing squad, and gas, has become the most common form of execution in the United States. In the Year of 2005, every American execution was conducted by Lethal injection.

ELECTROCUTION EXECUTION

Electrocution was invented to seek a more humane way to execute criminals rather than hanging them. The first electric chair was invented in New York in 1888 and executed William Kemmler in 1890. Other states begin to take interest in this new and easy method. In Nebraska it was the sole use of execution until in 2008, the state of Nebraska declared it "cruel and unusual punishment", this claim left the state without any method of execution.

Here is a map of the states and their methods of death penalty.

  1. -In this map the states that appear in Red, are states that allow "Electrocution" as their modes of execution.
- the states that are in dark gray do not enforce or allow the death penalty.

-States that are in light gray do not have an electrocution policies but they enforce other methods.

- then the small parts of greens scattered in the map are other methods such as lethal injection, firing squad, hanging, and gas.

New York Death Penalty

THE NEW YORK STATE DEATH PENALTY.
The state of New York has decided to reject the failed experiment of the death penalty, However New York has also found alternatives to the death penalty. The NYADP (The New York Alternatives to Death Penalty), believes abolition means more than the absence of death row.Abolition means the response to violence are constructive, just, and work toward the betterment of the society.

The NYADP feels that these five groups united will help keep death penalty out of the state of New York;

1) victims/survivors
2) Law enforcement
3) Advocates to the mental ill
4) Prison families
5) Restorative justice practitioners

By connecting these groups and addressing the reducing of violence, the NYADP feel that they can change the state's view of retributive punishment being the only solution to crime.
